︎ Inspired by Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, six Brazilian women artists reflected on their experiences of living in Porto, addressing women’s rights, representation, and the power structures rooted in colonialism and patriarchy. I was invited to design the poster and support the exhibition display, but later also participated as one of the exhibiting artists.
The design drew on the palimpsest technique, central point to the exhibition’s concept, to create a poster featuring the 55 women’s names from Calvino’s book. This poster was then carried through the streets of Porto during a walk across areas marked by gentrification. Layers of images and media evoked the ways in which history is built through both victory and oppression, while still allowing space for reconstruction and reinvention.
